Elias was born in Rochester, NY. He moved to Ashippun, WI with his father and siblings after the death of his mother. He was a farmer. He lived on the homestead purchased by his father until he bought another farm in the same town seven years before his death.
Caroline was born in Richfield, WI in Washington County. She died in Hartford, WI following an operation for appendicitis. Elias and Caroline were married at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Ashippun, WI by Rev. L.D. Brainard.
