Gottlob was a seasonal worker and laborer. His father, Christian Lehmann, came from Zirstau.

Christiana was her parents' fourth daughter. She also had two brothers. Her father, Gottfried Poschel, was born about 1745 and died on 31 July 1807 in a fatal accident in the clay pit of the Royal China Manufacture where he worked. Her mother, Christina Witichin, was born on 4 October 1754 and died on 13 February 1817.
