Oscar lived in the teacherage across the street from where Elsie lived with her father. They married and lived in the teacherage together until Oscar switched to teaching in the public school, at which time they moved in with Elsie's father. They moved to Schuyler, NE in 1938. Oscar started working as an education consultant for the Nebraska State Employment Service in 1942. He and Elsie lived in two different houses in Columbus, NE before moving to Omaha, NE in 1952.
